The Impact of the Public Health Care-Giver on Family Planning Services

Against the background of apparent sanction and public desire in Ethiopia for contraceptive services, the role of the health team in establishing, implementing and dispensing such services becomes increasingly significant. The atmosphere of the members of the basic health team can have a pervasive and fundamental effect on the delivery of services; the educational, emotional, and ethical ‘set’. This may be particularly more evident in such an emotionnally charged area as sex and family planning. In an attempt to elicit an indication of the care-giver attitudes toward family planning, a survey was conducted in Nekempte, Wollega, in early 1974. The findings of this survey are presented and discussed. Ref., summ., tab.
